Member Information

The Ypsilanti Community Choir currently has about 50 members. Our group is open to all adult singers, regardless of musical training. We have never held auditions to join our group -- a love of music is the only prerequisite.

This page is intended to provide current and prospective members with some of the expectations of membership. In addition to the information listed below there may be announcements and direction given during rehearsals or before a concert.

Member Data Form

All members are asked to complete a member data form so the YCC board has your name, address and contact information on file. This ensures that we spell your name correctly in the program and can keep you informed of changes and updates in rehearsals and concert schedules.

The form also asks some demographic information which we use in the course of publicizing and promoting the choir; this information is voluntary and you are not required to furnish if if you are not comfortable doing so.

Music

All music is provided by the Ypsilanti Community Choir. Currently music is distributed to singers on an honor basis, with the understanding that it will be returned after the concert (or sooner if the singer realizes they cannot perform in the upcoming concert).

Music should be organized in a black folder during the concert. If you need a black folder, please notify the director at the first rehearsal of the semester so we make arrangements to buy several at a discount and receive them in time for the concert.

Dues

There are no formal dues or membership charges assessed to Choir members. However, we do encourage Choir members to make a $35 contribution each semester, payable to the Ypsilanti Community Choir. These contributions, along with donations from individuals and businesses in the Ypsilanti area, have made it possible for the Ypsilanti Community Choir to provide free entertainment to the community since 1983.

Concert Attire

Women : All black or black bottoms and white tops (dress or blouse with skirt or pants).

Men : Dark suit (or dark sports coat and trousers) and white shirt & tie. Usually, you'll be able to ditch that jacket for the spring concert!

For the December Holiday Concert: Men and women are encouraged to add red or green to your concert wear. Women may wear all red, all green or just add touches of red or green; men, add a holiday or solid red or green tie (no flashing ties; the battery could overheat and set your shirt on fire during the concert ... which is distracting to both the musicians and the audience, not to mention painful.... ).

Ways to Help

In addition to singing, the need arises from time to time to assist our group in other ways. These include, but are not limited to, serving on the YCC board of directors, librarian, substitute conductor and pianist, and helping to set up, tear down, and transport our risers to our venues. We will ask for your assistance during rehearsal and would appreciate those who can step up to help.
